Frequently Asked Questions
Product
Our toilet paper is made from real 100% bamboo fibres and we don't add any chemicals like bleach, fragrance or
binders. That makes the paper extra soft on your skin, while at the same time being stronger than paper made from wood pulp. So you can count on everyday comfort without it tearing easily.
Bamboi has 2.5x more paper on every roll than the average toilet paper brand. That means fewer roll cores thrown away, less packaging, and fewer
transport movements to get the same length of paper to your home.
Every roll has 3-ply paper, 380 sheets and a generous 41.8 metres in length — significantly more than a standard roll. That means one box of Bamboi gives you a lot more convenience and less transport.
You can choose from three sizes:
- Box of 48 rolls ≈ 125 regular rolls
- Box of 24 rolls ≈ 63 regular rolls
- Box of 12 rolls ≈ 32 regular rolls
There's always a size that suits your household, so you can be sure you'll never run out.
Our rolls are two and a half times as long as a standard roll. That means fewer roll changes and a box that lasts much longer. Of course, usage varies per household, depending on the number of people and how heavily the toilet paper is used. The guideline below is based on average use:
Household | 24 rolls | 48 rolls
1 to 2 people | ± 12 weeks | ± 24 weeks
3 to 4 people | ± 8 weeks | ± 16 weeks
5 to 6 people | ± 4 weeks | ± 8 weeks
Yes, our rolls fit perfectly in standard toilet roll holders. The rolls are a bit longer because they contain more paper, but the diameter is the same as most regular rolls. So you can use them in your current holder without any worries.
Yes! Our products are designed to be fully recyclable and plastic-free. The roll core is made from sturdy
bamboo and the wrapper from bamboo paper, printed with plant-based oils. Both can simply go in the paper recycling. The box your Bamboi arrives in is also made entirely from recycled cardboard and can go straight back into the recycling stream.
Bamboi rolls are wrapped in a thin bamboo kraft paper wrapper, printed with plant-based inks. This makes our packaging completely plastic-free and 100% recyclable. The wrapper protects your toilet paper, so it arrives and stays clean, soft and fresh in your home. But they have another purpose too: the cardboard boxes, made from recycled cardboard,
officially serve only as a logistics tool. That means the wrapper is actually the first and only packaging of the rolls.
Fun fact: Bamboi rolls come in four natural colours.
Each colour symbolises a different phase in the growth of bamboo, from young shoot to mature plant. If you stack the colours in the right order, you can read all the benefits from the floor of the bamboo forest up to the mature stem. That way you bring not just sustainability into your home, but also a splash of colour and an educational story!

Sustainability
Bamboi is grown and produced in China, in the Sichuan province, home to the world's largest bamboo forests. The bamboo industry is mainly based in Asia, where there are abundant supplies of local raw materials and
a long tradition of bamboo cultivation and processing. This has created a wealth of specialist knowledge in the sustainable processing of bamboo.
We work with a manufacturer that places great value on good employment practices, sustainability, certifications and efficient production processes. You can read more about this under the certificates section.
We can already hear you thinking, "all the way from China?" In reality, transport has a relatively small impact. A single container ship from Asia can carry up to 20,000 containers at once. Its CO₂ emissions are comparable to just 700 to 900 km of truck transport within Europe. On average, transport accounts for only around 5% of our product's total footprint.
A fair question! Our toilet paper is produced in China, home to the world's largest bamboo forests. It's no coincidence that there's a wealth of knowledge about sustainable processing there, thanks to a centuries-old tradition of bamboo craftsmanship. By producing close to the source, we also save on transporting raw materials and can process the bamboo more efficiently.
The sea freight used to ship Bamboi to Europe is one of the most efficient transport methods in the world. A container ship often carries more than 20,000 containers per voyage, and the CO₂ emissions per container are
comparable to just 700 to 900 kilometres of road freight by truck in Europe. As a result, transport accounts for less than 5% of our total ecological footprint on average.
The rolls are wound tightly and compactly, so more metres of paper fit on each roll and more rolls fit in each box. That means less packaging material, less air per shipment and fewer deliveries.
On top of that, Bamboi® is plastic-free, unbleached and free from chemicals, keeping Bamboi's total life cycle impact significantly lower than that of traditional toilet paper.
To make the most of all the benefits of sustainably grown and responsibly processed bamboo, our paper currently still comes from Asia. That's where the origin, the expertise and the infrastructure are based that make it possible to process bamboo responsibly and efficiently on a large scale.
Bamboi toilet paper starts with the unique qualities of bamboo. This type of grass grows incredibly fast, needs hardly any water and can be cultivated without pesticides or chemicals. During its growth, bamboo also absorbs large amounts of CO₂ and stores it in its fibres - significantly more than most tree species.
When a bamboo stalk reaches its maximum storage capacity and approaches the end of its life cycle, it is harvested. The roots stay in the ground, so the plant naturally grows back on its own. This makes bamboo an infinitely renewable raw material, with no deforestation involved.
The bamboo Bamboi uses comes entirely from responsibly managed forests and carries the FSC® certification. Switching to paper made from 100% bamboo means lower CO₂ emissions and less water use per kilo of paper, while also easing the pressure on existing forests around the world.
A roll of Bamboi consists solely of water and bamboo fibres, with no added bleaches, binders or softeners. The sheets are mechanically pressed, and wherever process chemicals are needed, they stay within a closed loop, so no harmful substances end up in the final product or in the environment.
The result is a 100% natural, hypoallergenic and biodegradable toilet paper that is both soft and strong. With this, Bamboi directly contributes to reducing deforestation and lowering chemical impact.
Bamboi is more affordable than most A-brands, yet a bit more expensive than a standard supermarket own-brand. So you get the quality of premium toilet paper, but at a fair price and with sustainability included. A roll of Bamboi® on subscription costs €0.94 and is 42 metres long. Regular toilet paper averages 15 metres and costs €0.39. By comparison, a 15-metre roll of Bamboi®
toilet paper would cost €0.35. So you're actually cheaper off.
To give a clearer picture: on average you pay €0.2659 for 100
sheets. This average is based on 26 different toilet paper brands. With a subscription, our toilet paper costs €0.2533 per 100 sheets. That makes us 5% cheaper than the average toilet paper.
On top of that, our rolls are delivered to your door climate-neutrally in
plastic-free packaging: no more lugging huge packs home from the supermarket, just easy delivery straight to your doorstep.
The big question we often get asked! It might seem like recycled and bamboo toilet paper are equally sustainable, but there are some important differences.
Recycled toilet paper is made from old paper products, like receipts and packaging. While this paper gets a second life, cleaning it is an intensive process that requires a lot of water, energy and chemicals. On top of that, PFAS and other residues can remain in the paper, ending up in the environment through flushing or wastewater.
Plus, a paper fibre can only be reused four to six times. With hygiene paper, the fibre disappears down the drain for good, which means it's more circular to use recycled fibres for packaging or cardboard instead.
Bamboi toilet paper is made from 100% bamboo fibres sourced from responsibly managed forests (FSC®). Bamboo grows back incredibly fast without causing deforestation, absorbs more CO₂ than trees and needs significantly less water and energy to produce.
Our rolls contain no bleaches, fragrances or binding agents, and bamboo fibre is naturally antibacterial, hypoallergenic and strong. The fibres are longer than those of recycled paper, giving extra softness and strength without any chemical additives.
In short: recycled paper reuses waste, but Bamboi prevents pollution at the source with a natural, clean and future-proof alternative.
Yes, Bamboi toilet paper is 100% biodegradable. It's made purely from bamboo fibres and contains no
bleach, fragrance or other chemicals. That makes it not only safe for nature, but also a healthier choice for your skin.
A bonus benefit: Bamboi paper is also compostable. So you can even toss it into your compost bin, where it fully returns to nature.
Our paper breaks down quickly in water, so it can be flushed without issues in virtually any toilet and sewage system.
Yes. Bamboi toilet paper is designed to dissolve quickly. Bamboo fibres are naturally softer and break down faster than wood-pulp paper. This reduces the risk of blockages and puts less strain on the system.
For healthy bacterial activity inside the tank, we recommend using unbleached paper without added fragrances or lotions. Bamboi meets these criteria, so the natural breakdown in the tank isn't disrupted.
Since every system is different, we recommend starting with small quantities or testing it out with a trial pack. In short, bamboo toilet paper — as long as it's unbleached and free from additives, like Bamboi® — is a sustainable and safe choice for virtually all septic systems.
